When Words Dream

When words dream I am at a loss desiring the ‘us’ I left and thereby lost.

It was without suspense that I came upon you in that sudden emptiness where the glacier had formed a transparent corridor.

You did not question my desire of taking what I saw.

Only, a look.

I touched your leaves.

My hand blackened, consumed in flames.

Beyond this moment, another.

Beyond this moment, another.

Beyond this moment, another.

Beyond this moment, another.

I walked through the white meadow.

I walked towards the river, turning in dark light.

You fell.

I walked through shade, the orchard stretched for orange miles.

You crouched.

You fell.

I walked out of the shade, the river was gone, it was nowhere.

The path led down.

A bird flew up and disappeared against the white sun.

Distance uncharted.

We walked it, counting, not counting.

You spoke to make it vanish.

We called it back.

Gone.

You fell.

I closed your eyes.

At length I fell beside you.

Eyes turn downward, meek fingers offer pardon.

Dusk’s blue fringe, wind sighs, moves like a lover through the trees.

I cannot simplify you.

I sleep beside you.

I cannot simplify you.

Dreamwords, when.
