Slave Book

By January 8, 2012January 22nd, 2016Writing

The purchases ledgered,
one by one,
tabular and graphic,
delicate footnotes
margined below,
like the dust
of resolute termites.
A commercial venture,
a flowering industry,
with its aim of erasure
(divine stain wiped clean)
and consequent creation
(muscle-bound monsters,
broken-backed angels).
Christian laughter
in hidden rooms,
a spark to blow
the door off its hinges,
the pulse of hostile sun
laid weltwise on the
white linen suits
of the comprachicos.
