As he perceived, rapt observer,
the unease of the man beside him,
the perfume of the woman across the aisle
unbalancing his neighbor’s nerves.

Weakly, as after a long illness,
and touching softly the brim of his hat
he left the room, descending to
the swirling pavement, to vanish.

In a sudden glare the bar
caverns, wombs, and settles.
