(Characters: Curtis, Daniel
Setting: Parking garage, Galleria del Mar, Rayuela entrance. 3 p.m.)

Curtis: Simoncito let the cat out of the bag.

Daniel: Which cat would that be.

Curtis: The promotion the big kick upstairs congratulations and long time coming and all that.

Daniel: They’re calling it a promotion now.

Curtis: Looks like it smells like it walks like it.

Daniel: It’s a bribe and you know it.

Curtis: Ow ow kill me with kindness please.

Daniel: You’d jump at it I take it.

Curtis: In a digitalis heartbeat
baby.

Daniel: You could live with.

Curtis: And sleep like a baby.

Daniel: You’re in a minority.

Curtis: Then the entire fifth floor’s in a minority oh and the secretarial pool and the garage and most of the ghosts on the beat.

Daniel: Simon told you.

Curtis: Simoncito’s all gossip and no judgment.

Daniel: So Simon figures.

Curtis: Listen to me.

Daniel: I always do.

Curtis: There is no figuring with Simon he’s not that kind of bird he’s still puzzling the collapse of Marriage Number One and what is it.

Daniel: Fourth time last October.

Curtis: Right so take it for what it is.

Daniel: Unpoisoned.

Curtis: Not a drop not a malicious bone etcetera just running at the mouth and.

Daniel: Ignore it or.

Curtis: And he’s happy for you by the way for what that’s worth.

Daniel: Love me love my umbrella.

Curtis: A corner office isn’t exile.

Daniel: Antarctica Region I seem to remember you once saying.

Curtis: Callow youth witty callow youth I grant you but barking out the wrong muzzle.

Daniel: Lie back and enjoy it then.

Curtis: Don’t kid yourself it won’t be all roses and jam tarts you’ll earn your pay they’ll have you an overtime cot snug by the bubbler by week’s end.

Daniel: And the foxes.

Curtis: The foxes haven’t got far to run.

Daniel: Let them eat the hens and look the other way.

Curtis: It’s a phenomenon known as waiting for the right time and don’t worry the axe won’t rust.

Daniel: Who put Simon up to it I wonder.
