Belle’s mortal throes,
limping into Rochecorbon
to a deathbed of roses.
Cocteau’s received stigmata
perceived through a lens of light
and possibly fraudulent tears.
Dust stifles an infant’s cry,
dust falling in a torrent of
golden sand and snow,
uniform as the sound of
weeping, heartbreaking
as a kitten in a pinafore.
